three wonderful things!
Visionary and uncompromising, Jane Siberry is one of Canada’s most original and influential singer-songwriters. Her body of work spans decades, including transcendent classics like Calling All Angels, Love Is Everything, and Mimi On The Beach. Her contribution to The Crow soundtrack, It Won’t Rain All The Time, continues to resonate decades later.
Reflecting on her career, Siberry says: “I feel like I’m inching my way toward my prime.”
CRITICAL PRAISE
“Jane Siberry is not easy. She sings about dogs, God, angels, sex and more in a multi-octave voice unhampered by considerations of gravity.”
— Ian Grey, Arts Journalist
“One of those rare artists who can crack brains and break hearts at the same time.”
— Don Shewey, The Village Voice
When I Was a Boy included in Top 10 Albums
— Jon Pareles, The New York Times
AN ARTIST IN AN INDUSTRY IN FLUX
After leaving Warner/Reprise Records in 1996, Siberry founded her own label, Sheeba, and pioneered a “pay-what-you-can” model for music downloads—inviting audiences into a trust-based creative economy. “What does it trust in? All that is Good,” she says. She also expanded live performance beyond traditional venues with global “salon tours”—from llama farms in New Zealand to garages in Australia, kominkas in Japan, kitchens in Finland, and bell towers in rural England. Audiences describe her performances as intense, heraldic, funny, and startling.
ABOUT THE NEW MUSIC
• Season One: IN THE THICKET OF OUR OWN UNCONSCIOUSNESS.
After a ten year hiatus, the new Siberry release unfolds over three recordings (seasons). The albums blossoms like a musical Netflix series, interweaving songs with spoken segues she calls “the matrix”, where a cast of characters comment and sometimes argue about the songs. Themes include flickering consciousness, compassion, and rigorous self-reckoning—“the moments in between.”
• CREDITS
Co-produced with Renée Cologne, the recordings feature longtime collaborators Peter Kiesewalter, Ken Myhr, Rich Brown, Rebecca Jenkins, Jacob Switzer, Renée Cologne, Marlon Saunders, Alyson Palmer, Rebecca Campbell, David Ramsden.
• TOPICS
Included are songs for the love of nature 'BOUNTIFUL BEAUTIFUL', seeing beyond outer differences 'TO SEE SPIRIT', struggles with the ego 'LOSING CONTROL', asking friends for help 'REMIND ME OF WHAT I BELIEVE' and matrices 'RATHER WOULD I BE EATEN BY A GRIZZLY'.
